Dual Credit Classes at Collin College
If you are a junior or senior who intends to enroll in Dual Credit Classes for Fall 2010, click here to find the updated class schedule for fall semester 2010.  Class times were adjusted as of 6/14/2010 to work with the recently changed MISD high school start/end times.   Be careful to enroll in a section that does not conflict with another class you have requested at Boyd (sports, band, cheer, etc.).  If you are uncertain what period your other class may be, please contact your coach or director via email.

The process for enrolling is as follows:
-attend a dual credit meeting for important deadlines and paperwork (May 7 or May 27)
-meet the testing criteria to be considered for Dual Credit (Juniors:  If Boyd has not received   your test results from ACT or SAT yet, you must take the TSI test at CC for $29 and provide passing scores in order to be considered for Dual Credit)
- have your Dual Credit Permission Form approved and signed by counselor (student/parent signatures and intended subject(s) must be filled in prior to approval by counselor)

Please note: counselors will return from summer break the week of August 2.  If you did not turn your form in before school ended, you may leave your completed paperwork at the front office over the summer and you will be contacted when the paperwork is ready to be picked up.   Collin College has regular registration from June 25-August 11.

-request an official transcript from the Boyd Registrar office (open summer hours)
-apply for admission at Collin College (in person is faster than online)

Once you have your signed permission form, your official transcript, and have applied for admission, you are able to register and pay for classes at Collin College.

After registering and paying for classes at Collin College, bring a copy of your receipt and the form showing which section of each class you registered for to the counseling office so your fall schedule can be adjusted to reflect your dual credit classes.  You may drop your receipts at the front reception office this summer during open hours.

Boyd HS summer hours are Mon-Thur:  9-12 and 1-3.  Boyd is closed on Fridays.

CTE Courses to Return to Boyd for 2010-11
As posted on the MISD Website

Earlier this semester, McKinney ISD initiated a plan to move certain Career and Technology Education programs to McKinney North High School.  Following several weeks of careful analysis and further deliberation, the McKinney ISD Board of Trustees and administration have decided not to proceed with the plan.  As a result, students affected by the change are encouraged to complete a new course verification form if they would like to change their course schedule for the 2010-2011 school year.  Only students affected by this change will be afforded the opportunity to change his/her schedule.

A letter will be mailed to incoming 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students impacted by the change and these students will be encouraged to complete and turn in a new course verification form to his/her counselor, no later than Friday, May 14.  Students already zoned for McKinney North High School will not receive course verification forms.

New course registration forms for students affected by this change are available in the middle school and high school counselor’s office.  We apologize for any inconvenience this change may have caused and we appreciate your support.  We have attached a complete list of the courses impacted by the change at the bottom of this document.  The list also includes the new 2010-2011 location for the courses impacted by the change.  Feel free to contact your child’s counselor if you have any questions – 469-424-5561.

Transportation will continue to be offered for students attending McKinney Boyd High School or McKinney High School, and participating in CTE courses offered only at McKinney North High School.

The open enrollment option at McKinney North High School will continue to be offered and transportation will be provided for students opting to transfer to McKinney North High School.

Cell phone use limited in schools zones during school hours
Use allowed with hands-free devices or when vehicles are stopped

McKinney City Council passed an ordinance limiting the use of mobile devices while driving in school zones. City leaders, McKinney Police and Fire Departments and school districts within the city worked together on the ordinance with the goal of increasing safety measures for school zones.

Use of a mobile communication device on city streets is prohibited when the school zone hours are in effect in the morning and afternoon for drivers of any vehicle if the car is in motion. Hands-free devices are allowed when using a mobile communications device in a school zone, and cell phone use is allowed in a vehicle when it is stopped. It is permissible for passengers in the cars to use cell phones. There are exceptions for medical, fire or police related emergencies.

"Using a cell phone to talk or send messages while driving distracts drivers and increases safety risks and creates a danger to school children. We want to do everything we can to limit those risks, and this ordinance helps us achieve that goal," said Police Chief Doug Kowalski.

Drivers caught using a cell phone to place calls or send text messages in a school zone, without using a hands free device, and while operating a vehicle could be subject to a $200 fine. Signs will be posted warning drivers of the new ordinance.
