New Band Hall is Ready!

As our construction continues at MHS, we are excited about opening our new Band Hall for March 18th. McKinney ISD will be moving the band program into their new area over the break. The existing band hall will then undergo a renovation in preparation for our Orchestra program which will be moving out of the portable classrooms during the summer 2013.

The McKinney High School construction/renovation project remains on schedule. We are enduring some "construction disruption", but everything is on timeline. We are planning to begin moving in March with the opening of the new MHS Band Hall. The Fall 2013 semester will open the NW side of the campus which is comprised of many of our Career and Technology classrooms, foreign language classrooms and some traditional classrooms as well. The project completion tae is set for January 1, 2014.

The day that MHS supporters have long awaited is finally upon us. Beginning Wednesday, March 1, the first evidence of approximately two years worth of construction and renovation will appear on our campus. The work to renovate existing campus facilities and add classroom space is set to begin.

Initial work this spring will occur exclusively outside the building as a significant amount of dirt is moved from the rear of the campus to the front. Earth movers will lower the grade of the practice field located between the tennis courts and the softball field in preparation for addition of staff parking spaces. The dirt will be moved to the front of the building in preparation for regrading south and east of the current building footprint. Also, major work on underground utility lines will begin in the space between the softball field and the rear driveway.

Work this spring will not impact areas inside the building. The only impact we will may experience involves temporary, partial closures of the front circle drive between the hours of 8:00 am and 2:00 pm. All lanes of the circle drive will remain open during peak traffic times before and after school. When school ends in June, additional work will begin. Areas of construction will include parking areas and driveways, new wings and classrooms, new fine arts spaces, and a new main entrance. Renovation of E-hall will also occur this summer. Stay tuned for more information as the summer progresses.
