Living History: Living in Spanish Colonial America

Early American history was shaped primarily by two nations: England and Spain. Spain's role is often overlooked in spite of the fact that during the Revolutionary War, Spanish settlements could be found across most of the southern part of what is now the United States. Life in a Spanish colony was quite different from life in an English colony. In this twenty-minute program for grades 4-8 colorful historical reenactments give an in depth look at what it was like to live at a Spanish mission in California over 180 years ago. 1 22-min. Video; Teacher’s Guide with lesson plans, student activities, discussion questions, and script, 13 Blackline Masters
