Golf: North Girls Finish Fall Strong

The McKinney North girls golf team finished its fall season with some bright spots and many things to work on during the off-season.

The varsity finished in fifth place (434) on Monday at Hurricane Creek Country Club, beating three of our district opponents. Tori Dobbie led the team, with a top-10 finish out of 54 golfers with a 95. Other members included: Kalee Howard (107), Abigail Leath (111), Kourtney Palmer (121), and Kylee Yeatman (126).

The JV had saved its best for last, improving by 16 strokes as a team and finishing in fourth place (448).  Bailey Nichols led the Lady Dawgs, shooting a personal best 104 Tuesday at Lake Park Golf Club. Other members included: Courtney Cole (110), Haley Dvoracek (116), Amanda Norton (118), Andrea Monge (119), and Wiluana Norton (124).

The golf team begins their off-season and will pick up tournament play in February.

McKinney North Does It Again

The McKinney North varsity Lady Dawgs continued their early season success Thursday, defeating TCA 58-34 in the opening round of the Highland Park Tournament.

"We got off to a slow start," said North coach Valerie Little, whose team managed to pull ahead 29-12 by halftime. Little said her team, which improved its record to 4-0, picked up its defensive play in the second half to produce the final margin.

 North's leading scorer was Amanda Mason with 16 points. Aundrea Gamble had 13 points. Alexis Mason finished with 9, while Rachel Thomas chipped in 6. Tahnie Hilliard and Khouriana Johnson each had 4 points while Theresa Mendoza & Avril Matthews finished with 3 apiece.

Cost is: Adult - $75.00; Student - $50.00.

Wrestling: Boyd Pins Dallas Jesuit

The McKinney Boyd Bronco wrestling team scored its second straight dual meet win Thursday night by defeating Dallas Jesuit 48-39 in varsity action.

The Broncos had pins from Mike Dauterive, Tyler Casey, Jarrett Hale, and Eric Johnson. The total mat time in the victories by Dauterive, Hale, and Johnson was 1 minute 46 seconds.

Boyd moved its varsity dual meet record to 2-0 and will be in action again Saturday at Bishop Lynch Prep School in Dallas.

The Junior Varsity won 7 of 11 matches and scored a decisive victory over the Rangers with a 40-16 win. Colton Mitchell won twice, defeating one opponent 13-1 and pinning the other in 2:51. Other team members that won their matches (all by fall!) were Robert Tucker, Nick Templeton, Garrett Binkley, Drew Taylor and Jonah Chen.

JV special recognition of the night:
*  "Efficiency Expert" award for the night goes to Drew Taylor, who pinned his opponent in a mere 0:13 seconds.
*  "Workhorse" award of the night goest to Colton Mitchell, who beat two opponents in a span of less than 30 minutes.
